Week 8 Post

To make a successful business, it is important to promote the company through several different mediums. Because of all the different types of communications that are available to us today, this is not difficult to do. Through blogs, chat rooms, e-mail, video, etc. Simple Ski Racing employees can easily communicate with customers.

With wireless messaging services, employees can offer the best customer service possible by sending updates about products through text messaging. They could also create short how-to videos or other clips that can be sent with video messaging through mobile phones or e-mail. These services allow fast communication in an easy-to-understand format.

Groupware is software that helps groups of people work together on projects and share information over a network, which can make work between employees at Simple Ski Racing much more efficient and simple. They can manage projects, schedule meetings, and make decisions through the program. Programs like this help with coordinating multiple schedules to help projects and other operations run smoothly.

Week 10 Post

Databases are a crucial element in any business that has a need for storing information. At Simple Ski Racing customer information would need to be organized in a manner that allows access, retrieval, and use of that data. To create this database, we could use database software which allows the users to add, modify, and delete data easily.

Several types of data would be entered into the fields of the database to organize information about the customers. For instance, text would be used to input the customer's name, address, and place of work, number would be used for a phone number, hyperlink would be used for an e-mail address, and attachment would be used for a photo. An identification number could be given to each customer to act as a primary key, which would uniquely identify each customer record.

To add records to the database, an employee must use the database management system to display a Customer Information Form, where they can create a new customer file. The employee would then fill in the fields with data such as name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number, etc. Photos and other information can be stored to the file through attachments. Through this database, the customer records can be modified, deleted, or validated, making these processes very easy for employees and Simple Ski Racing.

Week 7 Post

At the Simplified Ski Racing office, the staff would have multiple computers to manage programs and other files that are needed to successfully run the business. The operating system would be very important for coordinating all the activities from different resources on the computer. In order to use the same operating system on all the computers, they would most likely have to be the same size and make, to ensure that the same system would be compatible on all of them.

The user interface would be important to think about because it controls how you enter data and instructions and how information is displayed on the screen. I would want a graphical user interface with menus and visual images because this would be the easiest for the staff to use. A command-line interface might be confusing to the staff because they would need to know the commands and keys used.

I would also want a multitasking operating system so that users can work on more than one program and one time. This would make things easier because staff members may need to have an e-mail program as well as the Web browser open at the same time. While doing this, the active program would be in the foreground and the others would be in the background.

Week 6 Post

Storage is a key component of my invention idea because some kind of device in the ski boot would have to store data, instructions, and information for future use. The storage medium that might be used is a memory card, which could easily be installed in the device to be placed on the ski boot. It could store information such as the position of the buckles, so that the boots would buckle to the same tightness each time the skier pushed the button.

A miniature hard dish might also be a good option. A hard disk or a memory card could easily be transported, which would be helpful if a skier were to get a new pair of boots and still wanted the buckling function. These devices could also be taken out of the boot and connected to a computer, so that the user could read the information stored and change it if necessary.

Users of my product could use cloud storage to ensure that the information from their boot device is saved somewhere other than on the memory card or disk. If their card were damaged while skiing or if it was lost, this information would be stored through an Internet service. This information could easily be retrieved by logging in to the cloud storage provider, although the user may need to pay a fee to use this service.

Week 4 Post

As a computer would be a key component in creating the "buckle button" itself, as well as in documenting data about my customers, it is important to know how each part of the system unit will play a role. The motherboard is an element needed for any computer to function, as it serves as the main circuit board and contains slots for adapter cards, the processor chip, and memory. The CPU is also needed because it manages the main operations of the computer.

The computer would represent important data using bytes, which are combinations of 0s and 1s to represent other characters. Bytes can represent numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, punctuation marks, and more. This coding is created by typing on a keyboard, which then uses a chip to concert the signal into a special code that is sent to the system unit where the data can be stored.

Memory is very important for storing the data that I would need to keep about my customers. It could store the program of my choosing to do word processing, as well as the data created by the word processing program. This is called the stored program concept, which would be extremely helpful in keeping track of customer information such as addresses, phone numbers, past purchases, etc.

Week 3 Post

Since the Internet is used to provide people with global information and instant communication, it would be very important for me to market my product on a marketing website. By doing this, I could educate interested customers about the product so that they know why it might be useful to them, how it works, what it looks like, how much it costs, etc. By placing ads for my product or a link to my website on other websites that attract fellow skiers, especially racers who are interested in high-tech gear, I could easily market the product to a larger audience.

When making my own website, I would be interested in creating a unique domain name such as www.simpleski.com. I would incorporate both hypertext and hypermedia on my Web page. Graphic images would be a very important component because an interested customer would most likely not purchase such a product without knowledge of what it looks like.

In order to create this website I would need to follow a set of instructions including planning the site, analyzing and designing the site, creating the site, putting it on a Web server, and registering with search engines. After doing these things, my site would most likely show up if an internet use did a search containing words such as "ski", "boot", or "race". After creating the site it would be very important for me to update it regularly with any new information and to make sure that everything was working properly.

Week 1-Intro

As a ski racer, I've had endless experience with different kinds of ski racing equipment. This includes such things as skis, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, gloves, shin guards, pole guards...the list goes on. As any skier knows, the equipment required for the sport isn't exactly cheap, so when I purchase my gear, I always try to find the products that are the best quality, the most durable, and the easiest to use.

While ski racing, it is very important to have your boots buckled down as tight as they can possibly be. Although this undoubtedly helps your performance while practicing and while in the race course, it can also lead to cold toes and sore feet and ankles. Usually after every run I find myself having to bend over to yank up the hard-to-lift bindings so that my feet don't have to suffer so much. I know that it's important for race boots to be tight, which is why I'm not going to try to create a boot that is more comfortable to wear. Instead, I want to develop a boot with a simple button function that allows you to buckle and unbuckle your boots.

With this product, ski racers could simply press a button to make their feet more comfortable between runs without constantly bending over and wasting precious energy pulling up the buckles with their hands. The same button could also be used to buckle up the boots nice and tight before the skier takes a run down the course. This is a product that I think would be very useful and popular among ski racers.
